Todd County businessman and war veteran Bill Johnson is pounding conservative Republican themes in his bid for the U.S. Senate.  While frontrunners Trey Grayson and Rand Paul have traded barbs on which of them is the true conservative and Republican, Johnson's presence in the race can only intensify that question leading up to the GOP primary.

In an election year primed by healthcare town meeting outrage and Tea Party activism, conservative voices are resonating.  But it remains to be seen if Johnson's voice will be a factor or a nuisance to the frontrunners in Kentucky's Republican primary.

In recent news releases from the Johnson campaign, after decrying the "nonsense coming out of Washington," Johnson's conservative Republican brand is summed up 39 words, the last two being "Ronald Reagan."

He stands for limited government, low taxes, strong military, gun ownership, marriage between one man and one woman, and believes life begins at conception. Johnson is committed to returning our great nation to the conservative values of Ronald Reagan.

In recently loaning his campaign $250,000, Johnson told the Associated Press' Roger Alford,

"I'll contribute what I think is necessary to win. I truly believe the primary can be won for $300,000 with the right candidate. I've always said if you don't have to cover up your past, then it doesn't cost that much."

Johnson's latest news release says the concept of global warming is a hoax:

JOHNSON: GLOBAL WARMING? BURRRR IT IS COLD OUTSIDE
Abundance of hot air in Congress and the Environmental Protection Agency
Candidate calls for reduction or disbanding of EPA.

ELKTON —Kentucky GOP Senate Candidate Bill Johnson today issued the following statement regarding global warming and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

“We now know that claims of global warming are not science-based.  They are an excuse to drive a political agenda that has become a religion to some and a hoax lining the pockets of others.  The most prominent scientists who pushed the notion that climate change is man-made have been discredited as having abandoned science as they've manipulated data, conspired to silence criticism, and even lost the most critical temperature data that allegedly supported their climate Armageddon theories.

“The EPA has responded to the global warming myth by classifying carbon dioxide, a benign gas essential to all green life on the planet, as a pollutant while waiting for passage of Cap-and-Trade ‘Tax’ legislation.  While reasonable measures to protect our environment are appropriate, the EPA has become a political tool of environmental radicals to keep America from using its natural resources, like Kentucky coal.

“With over $10.5 billion in its discretionary budget and 17,384 full time equivalents, the EPA has become the epitome of the federal government out of control.  It should be near the top of the list of federal agencies that should be severely reduced in scope or disbanded all together.  The EPA should be replaced with a small, focused group that deals with real pollutants, not something all humans exhale.”

He stands for limited government, low taxes, strong military, gun ownership, marriage between one man and one woman, and believes life begins at conception.
