(WHAS11) A group planning to rally in Frankfort on Tuesday met Saturday to put the finishing touches on their plans. The group is rallying against Senate Bill Six, which is aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants by giving police broad authority to check the immigration status of the people they stop.
Several people gathered at the Americana Center to discuss the rally. They say the bill, if passed, would lead to racial profiling and violate their civil rights. Backers of the bill say it will send a strong message that Kentucky will not tolerate illegal immigration.
Another issue with the bill has been its cost. One state report estimated the bill would add $90 million in enforcement costs while saving $50 million by decreasing services to illegal immigrants.
