Numbers released by Kentucky's Education and Workforce Development Cabinet show that the Louisville metro area has lost 17,400 jobs from November 2008 to November 2009. Louisville regained about 2,100 jobs, however, from October to November.
By comparison, the Lexington statistical area lost 6,100 jobs from November 2008 to November 2009 while regaining 2,300 jobs from October to November.
Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased 0.7 percentage point in November
2009 to 10.6 percent from 11.3 percent in October 2009. The 10.6 percent unemployment rate in
November 2009 is 3.4 percentage points higher than the 7.2 percent rate recorded in November
2008. November 2009’s unemployment rate matches the 10.6 percent recorded in October 1983.
In addition, the 10.6 percent rate recorded in November 2009 is the highest since October 2009,
when the unemployment rate reached 11.3 percent.
