Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Senator Mitch McConnell and Alison Lundergan Grimes were at the same Fourth of July celebration in Campbellsville, Ky., making it the first event in about a year that the pair has attended at the same time.

Their political race is sure to be one of the most-watched races in the country this election season.
Mitch McConnell took part in the parade but didn't speak to the media or take the podium.

Grimes stayed on her campaign message but did talk about this week’s federal court ruling that said Kentucky's ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional.

“My husband and I have been married for 7 years, and I think Kentuckians deserve that same opportunity, obviously respecting the rights and privledges of churches that don’t think they should be forced to accept anything that is inconsistant with their teachings,” she said.

Other political figures including Hal Heiner and James Comer were also at that parade.
