FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes has raised nearly $5 million in her bid to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in one of the nation's most closely watched political races.
Grimes' campaign said Friday she collected $2.1 million in campaign contributions during the last three months of 2013. It says she ended the year with almost $3.5 million in the bank.
McConnell is seeking a sixth Senate term.
Grimes, the secretary of state in Kentucky, hasn't run TV ads yet, stockpiling money for later in the campaign. She's the decided favorite to win the Democratic nomination in May.
McConnell is being challenged in the GOP primary by Louisville businessman Matt Bevin.
