LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- U.S. Senate Candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes tops the list of politicians, faith and labor leaders scheduled to address a rally in Lexington Monday calling for a minimum wage hike.
The “Give America a Raise” Bus Tour is organized by Americans United for Change, a liberal advocacy group that ran aired a controvesial attack ad against U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) in 2013. The commercial criticized McConnell's oppostion to mandatory background checks for gun buyers, using footage of and comparing McConnell to a terrorist who explained how to buy guns in the United States.
The 4pm event at Thoroughbred Park is part of the the “Give America a Raise” Bus Tour, its black and yellow motor coach emblazoned with a large "$10.10."
Also scheduled to speak are Rep. Jesse Crenshaw (D-Lexington), Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, Bill Londrigan, President, Kentucky AFL-CIO, and Robert Akin, Bluegrass Central Labor Council.
Grimes joined many congressional Democrats and President Obama calling for raising the minimum wage to $10.10. McConnell opposes it, explaining it would destroy jobs.
