Fancy Farm organizers send out invitations
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear and U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell are among the political leaders who have been invited to speak at Kentucky's premier political event, a church picnic in the tiny western Kentucky town of Fancy Farm.
Mark Wilson, who organizes an afternoon of political speeches at the fundraiser for St. Jerome Catholic Church, said Agriculture Commissioner James Comer will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event now in its 132nd year.
Democratic Governor Steve Beshear and Republican U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell will be on hand for Fancy Farm.
It's set for Aug. 4. The speeches begin at 2 p.m. CDT.
Wilson has sent invitations to more than a dozen politicians, most of whom gladly accept the opportunity to address an always boisterous crowd that's always filled with hecklers.
