LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky's U.S. Senate seat held for 29 years by now Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is still rated "Likely Republican" in the University of Virginia's political handicapper Larry Sabato's most recent Senate race ratings released on Thursday.

McConnell faces a Republican primary challenge by Louisville investment manager Matt Bevin.  While polls show McConnell with a comfortable lead over Bevin in the primary, McConnell is neck and neck with Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) in general election polls.

Sabato's latest map does not update Kentucky's Senate race, but -- as a result of three other Senate races tilting more Republican -- Sabato now rates control of the now Democratic majority body as a "coin flip."
