With three members of the Louisville Metro Council running for mayor, it will be interesting to see who their fellow council members support in the race. So far, at least nine of the 26 council members are backing a specific candidate.
With the announcement Monday that council members Marianne Butler and George Unseld are endorsing Council Member Jim King, King now has five council members (including himself) in his corner. Council Members Dan Johnson and Bob Henderson had previously announced their support.
Council Member Tina Ward-Pugh endorsed Tyler Allen immediately upon Allen entering the mayoral race.
And, Greg Fischer has the support of Metro Councilman Brent T. Ackerson.
Obviously, Council Members Hal Heiner and David Tandy endorse themselves. And, it customary for politicians not to roll out all of their endorsements at once, but in a strategic manner so as to maximize the PR effect.
Other endorsements may have slipped by, unnoticed, so I encourage the campaigns to update the list. You can e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here is the latest Jim King endorsement announcement:
The Jim King for Mayor campaign announced today two additional elected officials that are endorsing King's campaign for Mayor of Louisville. Metro Councilwoman Marianne Butler from the 15th Metro Council District and Metro Councilman George Unseld from the 6th Metro Council District have both signed on to support King's efforts to become Louisville's next Mayor.
"As our campaign to bring Louisville together continues, I am humbled by the support of leaders like Councilwoman Butler and Councilman Unseld. I've worked with them on the Metro Council to improve the quality of life and enhance public safety for all Louisvillian's, and I hope to continue those efforts from the Mayor's office with them."
The elected officials gave testimony as to how they came to the decision to endorse King for Mayor:
"The people of Louisville are dealing with tough economic times. Families and government are in the leanest of times and struggling to meet basic needs. We need Jim King"
Councilwoman Marianne Butler, 15th District
"Jim King is one of the smartest people I've ever had the honor to work with on the Metro Council. He has a deep passion for our community and wants to see that all residents of Louisville have the opportunity to live out their dreams."
Councilman George Unseld, 6th District
