Council deadlocked on Unseld replacement

Through 13 votes, the Louisville Metro Council cannot agree on who should serve the next four months of the late George Unseld's term. 

The Louisville Metro Council has recessed for one hour, to reconvene at 8 p.m. in a marathon session to vote for a replacement for the vacated seat of the late George Unseld.

Deadlocked between Ken Herndon and Neeka Parks Thompson through 15 ballots, council member Judy Green offered a compromise candidate, Keith Hunter, on the 16th ballot.  He garnered no other support.

The council cannot agree on who should serve the next four months of the late George Unseld's term. 

Downtown Management District executive Ken Herndon has fallen one vote short on several ballots.  Attorney Neeka Parks Thompson has come within three votes of the 13 needed.

Most ballots have been Herndon - 12, Thompson 10.

Council member Jim King is reportedly driving to the meeting from Western Kentucky, and could be the deciding vote.

The council has reconvened after a 30 minute dinner break.  Both Herndon and Thompson are in attendance.

Three council members were absent for the 13th ballot, in which Herndon led Thompson, 10 votes to 9.

There are 22 Metro Council members in attendance for the vote, a candidate needs 13 votes to win.

In the 5th ballot, Judy Green changed her vote from Thompson to Herndon:
