Here's an update on a few congressional races:

Indiana 9th

Congressman Baron Hill (D-IN) will talk about his reelection effort in a Monday morning news conference in New Albany.

The Ninth District race against Republican Todd Young is rated a toss up by the Cook Political Report.  Though Hill is a Blue Dog Democrat, by reputation a conservative member of his party, his recent support of liberal policy, particularly President Obama's health care overhaul, is believed to be a liability in the conservative district.

Meanwhile, Young's campaign says he has advanced to the top level of the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Guns Program, the party's vehicle for challenger candidates and open seat races.\

"Achieving the top level of the Young Guns program is an honor and another indication of the strength of our grassroots support." Young said. "We have heard from every corner of this district that voters are hungry for a new generation of responsible leadership and our campaign is ready to deliver. Having the backing of the NRCC will be an important resource against the Washington machine that wants to return Hill's rubber stamp to Congress."

Meanwhile, Republican congressional candidate Marlin Stutzman is entering the  Young Guns ‘Vanguard’ Program, the NRCC's effort for GOP-Leaning Open Seats.

Stutzman finished second to Dan Coats in the Republican Senate primary, but filed to run in the Indiana Third after incumbent Republican Mark Souder resigned in the wake of the revelation of an extramarital affair.

The campaign of Republican Todd Lally says an internal poll shows that Lally is in a virtual dead heat with incumbent Democrat John Yarmuth.  Rivercity Polling, a Republican-affiliated consulting group, conducted the survey.  The campaign did not include the poll's methodology, but noted that the same polling firm correctly predicted the outcome of the Republican congressional primary.

Rivercity's latest poll showed support for Lally at 43%, Yarmuth at 44% and Undecided or Other at 13%. The automated poll was conducted from June 20-29, and surveyed 300 likely voters with a margin of error at +  3%.
