For anyone who paid attention to the vitriolic Republican U.S. Senate primary, this is a remarkable photo, Trey Grayson and Rand Paul, shaking hands and smiling as Grayson puts his arm around the man who chased him from what at one time was considered an automatic Senate bid.
I missed this photo until late Monday night when updating the WHAS11 Political Blog, and noticing that a viewer had submitted a photo of a Republican unity rally in Northern Kentucky.
The Cincinnati Enquirer's Amanda Van Benschoten writes of the moment:
“I think it takes a big person to do that,” Paul said. “Had I been the loser, I would like to think that I would have been a big person also.”
(It’s even more remarkable when you consider that the unity rally was planned months in advance, but organizers didn’t invite Grayson until Wednesday, and he reportedly rearranged his schedule to attend.)
