A new poll continues to show a very uphill battle for Democrats to try to reclaim the Senate seat once held by Wendell Ford, but in Republican hands with Jim Bunning for 12 years.
Republicans Trey Grayson and Rand Paul both have wide leads in a new Rasmussen Reports survey of head to head match-ups in the Senate race.
Not only did the Republican contenders gain ground in the latest survey, but both Democrats saw their support go down. This highlights the difficult political environment for Democrats in Kentucky, given voter unhappiness over the national health care plan and the country’s bad economy.
The poll was conducted on March 2, in the heat of the Jim Bunning unemployment benefits firestorm, when seemingly Democrats Conway and Mongiardo would have their best opportunity in some time to change the dynamics in the race.
As impressive as these numbers are, all campaigns are anxiously awaiting the next WHAS11/Courier-Journal Bluegrass Poll that polls the primary contests.
