LOUISVILLE, Ky (WHAS11) -- Labeled as the "guardian of gridlock" by Democrats, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has not done enough to block liberal policies, the campaign of Republican primary challenger Matt Bevin argues in a new video.
"Mitch McConnell claims he is a Kentucky conservative, but he has a long record of voting for liberal policies that have been rejected by Kentucky Republicans," states a news release accompanying the fifty second video.
The video claims that McConnell's voting record is marked by votes for abortion funding, bailouts, amnesty, debt limit increases, gun control and tax increases.
Bevin's campaign said McConnell's voting record can be blamed for his "abysmal poll numbers."
A Rasmussen public opinion poll released on Wednesday showed that McConnell has the lowest approval rating of any leader in Congress, 26 percent, with a disapproval rating of 46 percent.
At 49 percent, the disapproval rating of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is even higher, yet he edges McConnell's approval rating at 28 percent.
The highest disapproval rating in the poll belongs to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), at 56 percent.
On Thursday, the McConnell campaign released an internal poll that shows the five-term incumbent leading Bevin by a 47 point margin, 68% - 21%.
