After a week of attacks from Republican gubernatorial nominee David Williams, Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) starts his re-election campaign in earnest on Monday with his first television commercial.
Campaign manager Bill Hyers told the Associated Press that the ads will run on network and cable television stations across the state, yet declined to say how much the campaign is spending on the first round of advertising.
While Williams has little to no money left from a more challenging than expected primary campaign, Beshear has about $3 million at the ready.
The Courier-Journal's Joe Gerth got a sneak peek of the ad and calls Beshear's wife, Jane, his best asset in the commecial:
“I grew up here in Dawson Springs, where my dad and granddad were preachers and we ran a funeral home,” Steve Beshear says. .
Jane Beshear talks about the fact they have been married more than 40 years and she acknowledges that some people in Kentucky have been harmed by the economic recession and slow recovery.
“That's why I'm working to create jobs and to make Frankfort live within its means,” Steve Beshear says.
