FRANKFORT, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Hundreds of thousands of uninsured people in Kentucky will now be eligible for Medicaid.
Governor Steve Beshear made that announcement on Thursday.
His decision expands Medicaid eligibility to people who make just under $16,000 per year and families of four with annual income of less than $32,500.
That's about $308,000 additional Kentuckians who will now become eligible. And Beshear has a message for critics.
“If Kentucky expands Medicaid, they ask, won't Kentucky be supporting Obamacare? Well, to them I say, 'Get over it.' Get over it,” Beshear said.
Expanded Medicaid takes effect Jan. 1. People can begin signing up Oct. 1.
