Congressman Chandler Responds to the State of the Union
WASHINGTON (January 25, 2011)—Today, Congressman Chandler released a statement responding to tonight’s State of the Union address:
“Tonight, the President’s message was one of unity, a message that called on the American people to put aside what divides us and focus on working together, especially on fixing our economy. As I have said countless times before, our number one priority has to be putting people back to work, but this is a huge undertaking and requires everyone to actively participate and work together. Right now, Kentucky’s state motto—united we stand, divided we fall—couldn’t be more relevant.
“As Americans, we all have a responsibility to voice our opinions and to even disagree strongly at times, but we also have a responsibility to disagree respectfully and to participate in the solution. I am a moderate and believe we need to find the middle ground. It’s time the extremes of both sides find a way to stop fighting and come together to fix our nation’s problems, to create jobs and make meaningful progress for our economic future.”
