Conway vs. Mongiardo: Youtube edition

I am working on a story for tonight (Friday) at 5:30pm regarding the Jack Conway Fancy Farm comments, the youtube video lampooning him and whether it all has affected the campaign.

I asked for statements from both campaigns:

Conway

"This isn't a campaign for student council, it's a race for the United States Senate. This is about Kentucky's future and who has gotten real results for the people of the Commonwealth. Voters are focused on jobs, health care and education and the future of Kentucky, not juvenile videos. Kentucky voters are smarter than that.

Jack has moved on. It is Attorney General Jack Conway who has shown up to work, is making a real difference and continues to fight for our families. This week he's been focused on making sure consumers are protected from scams in the aftermath of flooding and severe weather. That is why leaders across Kentucky have endorsed his candidacy and why he has broken fundraising records in this campaign.

On Colbert: Jack is a big fan of both Colbert and Jon Stewart. He was up with his new born baby girl - who still has her days and nights confused - and saw the Colbert Report about Fancy Farm and found it very funny."

- Mark Riddle - campaign consultant for Jack Conway

Mongiardo

Joe,
We had nothing to do with it and have no idea who was responsible. The first I even heard about it was when Chris Cilliza of WaPo emailed inquiry asking if we had anything to do with it and our answer then is the same as now - no.

And here's the official release from the Mongiardo campaign Friday:

"MONGIARDO WON THE WEEK-END"
- Al Cross, Southern Political Report, 8/3/09

Conway Misquoted Ford in Use of Profanity
at Fancy Farm - Bluegrasspolitics.bloginky.com, 8/4/09

"Mongiardo's strong attacks on Conway's support of cap-and-trade legislation (Conway is now waffling somewhat) and for catering to "the silver spoon crowd," combined with Conway's use of the words "hell" and "son-of-a-bitch"...were the talk of Kentucky."

A great week in our campaign to elect a Senator who will put Kentucky families first!

Won Fancy Farm

With Daniel delivering a forceful speech and Jack Conway losing his cool under pressure, Fancy Farm showed how Daniel is ready to fight for working families in the Senate, while those same families need to cover their children's ears when Jack speaks! Even Comedy Central's Colbert Report weighed in on Fancy Farm!
Watch Stephen Colbert's commentary here.

Received Major Labor Endorsement

Coming off Fancy Farm, the Tri-State Building and Construction Trades Council, representing 25,000 workers in 33 counties, endorsed Daniel. Business Agent Steve Burton said, "Coming from a working class family, Daniel knows first-hand the challenges working families face and shares our values. As our members are fond of saying, if you can't carry the bucket, you can't drink the water. Daniel has carried the bucket, standing up for and fighting to expand opportunity for Kentucky's working men and women for nearly 10 years."

Called for Healthcare Reform----Now

At Fancy Farm, Daniel talked about the need for healthcare reform now. Having worked on healthcare reform for ten years and as the only Democratic doctor in the Senate, Daniel will work to make quality healthcare affordable for every Kentuckian.
Watch Daniel speak on healthcare at State Rep. Mike Cherry's Garden Party.
Opposes Jack's Coal Tax That Will Cause Electric Rates to Soar and Cost Kentucky Jobs

Jack Conway supports the 'Cap & Trade' bill that places a huge tax on Kentucky coal. Jack's energy tax is a job killer--it will cost thousands of Kentucky jobs and significantly increase electric bills on Kentucky families. Daniel supports reducing our dependence on Mid-East oil by increasing development of solar, wind, natural gas and clean coal. Clean Kentucky coal will create jobs; lower energy costs; improve our environment---without a huge new tax on coal.

Supported Judge Sotomayor for Supreme Court

Prior to the historic vote, Daniel said he would confirm Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. "The daughter of a single working mom, Judge Sotomayor's compelling life story is a vivid reminder that whether you are born in the urban inner city or the mountains of Appalachia, in America you don't have to be born with a silver spoon to serve on the highest court in the land. As a prosecutor, private attorney and Federal District and Appellate Court Judge for 18 years, Judge Sotomayor is eminently qualified to sit on the United States Supreme Court."

Help Elect A Senator Who Will Stand For Us

Jack Conway may have support from New York and Los Angeles. But Daniel is counting on the people of Kentucky. Your contribution of $35, $50, $100, $250, or a maximum up to $2400 will allow us to run a winning campaign that focuses on improving the lives of Kentucky families. Please go to www.drdan2010.com, and contribute what you can today!
