Still waiting to hear how much campaign cash Secretary of State Trey Grayson reeled in from a $500 per head D.C. fundraiser Wednesday night. 23 GOP Senators, including Kentucky's Mitch McConnell were scheduled to "host" the event, despite Grayson facing an increasingly formidable primary opponent, Bowling Green eye doctor Rand Paul, who has captured the hearts of libertarian-minded fans of his father, Texas congressman Ron Paul.
A "moneybomb" for the Rand Paul campaign in response to Grayson's event was only half as succesful as a similar one-day online effort last month. Still, the $186,000 raised in internet donations Wednesday puts Paul's total campaign contributions over $1 million.
"Our fundraising success ensures that Rand will be able keep the focus of the Republican primary on balanced budgets, term limits and following the Constitution rather than just having to listen to mindless attacks from political opponents," David Adams, campaign manager, said.
