The411 with Sherlene Shanklin: When I received word that this artist was returning to Louisville after 13 years the anticipation grew when the KFC Yum! Center said they would be holding a press conference to make the announcement. There was alot of speculation of who it might be. I was able to confirm who it was the day before the announcement.
This morning at a 11:00 a.m. news conference, the KFC Yum! Center officially announced that five-time Grammy Award and the recipient of the 1991 Grammy Legend Award, Billy Joel will perform in Louisville. Joel has concerts scheduled all over the U.S. from Florida, which he performed there last night to New York in Madison Square Gardens.
Billy Joel is scheduled to be at the Yum! Center on Sunday, April 6th. Fans will hear songs like "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me", "My Life", "Just The Way You Are", "We Didn't Start The Fire" and "Tell Her About It" just to name only a few of the many platinum hits.
Looking back into my records Joel has been in Kentucky for multiple concerts 1980, 1990 and 2003 Rupp Arena. He was in Louisville at Freedom Hall in 1994, and 2001. Elton John actually performed with Joel in 2001.
Joel was born William Martin Joel in 1949. At the age of four he started to study piano. He joined his first band in 1963. They were called The Echoes, later renamed The Lost Souls. In 1971, he signs a solo recording contract and releases his first album, Cold Spring Habor. Two years later, in 1973 he signed with the legendary Clive Davis and Columbia Records and records the album Piano Man. That song just a short time later becomes Joel's first top 20 single and first gold album.
Joel has dozens of hits and his fans will get a real show in the Yum! Center. From looking at his schedule Louisville, KY is one of the first concerts in the Midwest for him.
