Update 11:00pm: I just got off the phone with Lavon Fisher-Wilson. She was very excited about her role in the movie. She thought it was crazy to see herself on television. Wilson says she really enjoyed the opportunity and appreciated Disney for embracing her talent and giving her a role in the movie. She really had a lot of fun in Puerto Rico while filming.
I also asked her about Newsies and she was thrilled to tell me that she will be in the production at least until September of 2014. She's able to do the shows at night because her husband works during the day as a truck driver, so he's with the children at night. Anyone who knows the hours you have to work in the entertainment field know Lavon has a great support system.
I could not let her get off the phone without asking how often she comes back to Louisville. She comes back Labor Day Weekend for her family reunion, December when her children are out of school and during Derby. I hope to catchup with Lavon on her next visit back to her hometown.

The411 with Sherlene Shanklin: Family and friends are about to gather to support Louisville native Lavon Fisher-Wilson. She's apart of Disney's World Premier of Teen Beach that airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. (EST). The Manual/YPAS graduate spent her summers performing at at Six Flags Great America. She is a true testimony that hard-work does payoff.
The multi-talented actress/singer has worked on some great productions like Smokey Joe Cafe', Dream Girls (West Coast Tour), Blackbirds of Broadway and she is currently starring in the Broadway play Newsies in New York City.
Wilson also believes in giving back. She started UJAMMA, a youth ensemble that teaches underprivileged children the musical theatre history of the African American performer. The ensemble has over 150 children involved in the program.
