The411:  The creator of Nai’s 1st Poetry is bringing a new flavor to the Kentucky Derby.  It’s Poetry in Motion Derby Edition 2010 featuring none other than Def Jam Poet Sonya Renee.  It will be held at Actors Theatre in downtown Louisville on Sunday, May 2nd right in the heart of Kentucky Derby events.
Renee is known as the most accomplished, distinguished and recognized women in the world of performance poetry.  Her resume is extensive from holding the crown in 2004 for the National Individual Poetry Slam Champion to the 2008 Women of the World National Slam finalist.  This international spoken word artist has performed in New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, Sweden, and The Netherlands.  She has also appeared on some HBO, Oxygen, CNN, BET and MTV.  Even some of her works have been translated into Dutch and German and have been included in college curriculum.
Before Renee graces the audience with her works the Derby City has a great group of talented artists who support one another and they will have an opportunity to showcase themselves.  At this year’s Poetry in Motion spoken artists Fire, King David, Real, Spark Luv, Madison West, and Cincinnati’s own Laura Wize.  Music will be provided by acoustic guitarist Soul River Brown, accompanied by his live band and songstress Nicole Simone. Louisville’s rising comedic star Teri Moore will have you laughing out loud and Cincinnati’s Loe will keep things flowing as your host for the evening.  Terrence “Nai” Lee, founder of Poetry in Motion Derby Edition 2010 says “This is not just an event…it’s a spoken word experience.”  He also adds that he wanted to do something a little different by bringing this unique collaboration of artists together.
Poetry in Motion Derby Edition 2010 will be on Sunday, May 2nd.  The doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Advance tickets available for $25, $35 day of show.
