(WHAS11)- There is only one more Oprah show left. On Tuesday, it was part two of her spectacular farewell tribute. A young man from west Louisville, who graduated from Manual High School, was on the show that aired Tuesday.
Parnell Minter was not in the audience, but on stage with Oprah.
Minter received the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship to go to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga. Last week, a show producer called him and asked him if he could be on a flight in an hour and come to Chicago to tape a special tribute show for Oprah.
Minter says he grabbed a bag of clothes and headed straight to the airport. Next thing he knew, he was in Chicago at the United Center for the taping of the celebrity spectacular. Minter and other scholarship recipients went on stage to say thanks to Oprah for providing the scholarship and giving them a chance they otherwise would not have had.
“Words can’t even express,” said Minter. “I was one of the last people to walk off stage with Ms. Winfrey, and she gave me a hug and a kiss on my cheek and she told me she love me, and I told her ‘God bless’ and I thanked her.”
He said he is keeping his beard, because that is where Oprah kissed him.
Minter met all the celebrities at the tribute and had a coveted pass to one of the biggest productions around.
Minter had to sign a confidentiality agreement, stating he could not tell anyone he was going to the show until after they taped it last week, because it was all a big surprise for Oprah.
