LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It was a life that burned brightly for 33 years and a Zoneton firefighter continues to support the WHAS Crusade for Children nine years after his tragic death. His family and friends are ensuring it by buying bricks on the Crusade Walk of Fame outside the WHAS11 Television studios.

"Oh my gosh, he was a wonderful man," Zoneton firefighter Trey Oswald’s mother, Mary Jane Oswald, said.

Trey lived and loved like there was no tomorrow.

"Yes, yes, yes. He always had a smile on his face and he was always the life of the party everyone loved Trey so much,” Mary Jane said.

Trey was killed nine years ago when he was hit by a car, she said he's still with her every day as she thumbed through an album dedicated to her son.. The album full of honors, memorials and pictures, including bricks dedicated in his honor on the WHAS Crusade Walk of Fame.

After Trey’s death the Oswald's purchased three bricks, all designed by Mary Jane. She said the Crusade was so important to Trey and they bricks showcase his many passions.

"Trey was a big Cardinal fan, and he was a hunter," Mary Jane said with tears in her eyes. "Trey loved the Crusade, and I know he's proud of these bricks."

Trey was Mary Jane’s only son. He was the brother-in-law to Zoneton Chief Rob Orkies.

Orkie's said Trey's role as Zoneton's Crusade coordinator came honestly.

"He loves kids, still today I use the word in present tense. Still today I remember any kid that come in that firehouse whether he knew Trey or not he had that smile about him and he'd go get that kid and he'd take him on the fire truck and he'd have a bigger smile than they would so I know this is so passionate and Trey would be so proud," Orkies said.

Trey would be proud to see his fellow firefighters and his family still fighting for special needs children by adding his name to the Crusade Walk of Fame not once, not twice, but three times.
