Louisville, Ky. (WHAS) – A young woman from Mt. Washington is recovering this evening after St. Louis doctors successfully completed a second double lung transplant.
Christena Gabehart-Jones caught Kentuckiana’s attention when she received her first transplant back in 2005.
She was a teenager living life to her fullest potential until her first set of lungs began failing.
Gabehart-Jones’ family began hosting fundraisers to get her relocated to St. Louis to get the treatment she needed for another transplant.
In an interview from this past September, Gabehart-Jones’ father George talked about how much of an inspiration his daughter was.
"She's one of the most inspirational kids I've ever seen. I'm dad and I'm biased but she has touched so many people and when everyone found out that she was going to have another lung transplant it was 'What can we do'.
Christina is recovering in the St. Louis hospital.
Her family has asked everyone to keep the donor family in their heart and prayers.
