LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- In 2002 St. Matthews lost a beloved eatery, all because it lacked a drive-thru window.
White Castle had been in St. Matthews for 63 years before it closed its doors.
Now, the days of longing for the famous sliders are over for residents of the Louisville neighborhood.
On Friday, groundbreaking ceremonies were held on Shelbyville Road, across from Trinity High School, the location of the newest Louisville White Castle—and they were digging in style.
Crews with giant spatulas dug into the earth and kicked-off the construction. The White Castle is expected to be open in February, complete with a drive-thru.
