LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Thirty-five World War II veterans are back home after visiting the World War II memorial in Washington DC.
A large crowd greeted the veterans with a round of applause as they came back to Louisville International Airport Saturday night.
The veterans left this morning from Louisville to visit the memorial in the nation's capital, but some say the best part of the day was their homecoming.
It was awesome. I didn't expect all that, what i saw when i come in. That welcome party. It's awesome, said Gessie Thompson, a WWII veteran.
The trip was part of the Bluegrass Honor Flight Network and the entire trip was free to veterans.
