(WHAS11) -- Hours away from his home, strangers gather in Kentuckiana to honor Lane Goodwin.
The candlelight illuminating the faces of a few dozen mourners at Waterfront Park in Louisville is an appropriate metaphor for the impact a dying teenager had on thousands of strangers.
Lane Goodwin died Wednesday after a more than three-year battle with cancer. Followers on his Facebook page watched for updates on his condition and swallowed every move he made, inspired by words from Lane himself and his family.
Friday night there were tears as prayers were read, there was an emotional song, and they all ended the night with the boy's trademark -- a thumbs up for Lane Goodwin.
Funeral services will be held Monday. Visitation will lead up to it Sunday and Monday.
Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the funeral immediately following visitation.
All services are at Calhoun Baptist Church.
