LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics is now on the cutting edge of Type One diabetes research. They are the first in the state to join an international network of researchers called TrialNet. The goal is to prevent, delay or reverse the progression of Type One diabetes. That is when the body no longer produced insulin.
TrialNet provides free screening for people who may be at high risk for Type One diabetes and then allows them to participate in prevention studies.
This relationship gives the UofL Department of Pediatrics an entirely new added dimension to what they can offer families in the community, says Dr. Kupper Wintergerst, Director of UofL Pediatrics.
The TrialNet team will begin screening and enrolling participants at the Juvenile Diabetes Walk for the Cure at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
