LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The University of Louisville has received a bequest of about $1 million to endow a student-staffed law clinic there.
The Courier-Journal reports (http://cjky.it/TjOdZR) the clinic matches third-year law students with low-income clients who need legal representation and advice. Since it started three years ago, the clinic has provided free services in more than 500 cases.
Sue Ellen Ackerson, of Louisville, made the gift to honor her late husband Robert Ackerson, who founded the Ackerson & Yann law firm. The clinic is being named the Robert and Sue Ellen Ackerson Law Clinic.
School officials said they believe the gift is the largest in the history of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
