LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- More than 100 boys from Trinity and Saint X High Schools donned high heels, fancy purses and hot pink tights for a good cause. They took one for the team to raise awareness for the Mary Byron Project, a domestic violence education program. The event Sunday raised more than $900.
The Mary Byron Project provides scholarships for young women at Assumption High School interested in fostering ideas to end dating violence. The project was founded after Assumption graduate Mary Byron who was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1993.
Trinity High School was the winning team and they took home the coveted golden heel trophy, and bragging rights. However, in this game the real winner is Mary's message being carried on to future generations hoping to stop the chain of violence.
Pat Byron, the founder of the Mary Byron Project says "She'd [Mary] probably be embarrassed because you know she was quiet and a little shy, but I think she is up in heaven going ‘Yeah, mom!’ At least I hope so."
