LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A ton of meat was donated to Kentucky Harvest on Thursday and I don't mean a ton as in a lot, an actual ton of meat!

The meat comes from the North American International Livestock Expo Sale of Champions.

This is some of the finest livestock produced in the country. So today - lunch was served at Wayside Christian Mission made from champion steers, hogs and sheep.

The remainder of the meat will have been distributed by Kentucky Harvest volunteers to kitchens throughout Kentuckiana.

"Just the benefit of seeing them smile and happy and we make a donation from this sale to Blessings in a Backpack so we will be doing that,” L.B. Hocker, Sale of Champions Chairman, said.

The sale of champions was held on Nov. 15 at the Kentucky Expo Center.
