(WHAS11) - This week’s Consumer Watch is a little news you can use; for parents who will be shopping for school supplies over the next few weeks.
Who has the best prices in Kentuckiana? WHAS11’s Andy Treinen went in search of a deal. So, back to school shoppers this one is for you.
I went shopping armed with my first graders school supply list. You can find your children’s school supply list on the Jefferson County Schools web site. With that, I went off to find you the best deals available.
There’s competition this year for your back to school dollars and that’s a good thing for all of us; but even if we know what we’re looking for, some of us have trouble finding it. Before starting out, I scratched a backpack off my daughters list; last year’s is fine.
We then decided we would price everything else at Walmart, Target and Office Max. All three stores undercut the others on certain items, so finding a deal with daily sales on this or that would be a challenge; but it’s our job to find the deals.
Most stores offer supply lists for schools in the area, at all grade levels; but you still may want to bring your child along to push the cart and to weigh in.
Armed with the supplies I found and ready to check out, it was time to tally the cost.
Target’s total came in at $36.85; Walmart’s was five cents cheaper at $36.80. Office max offered several buy two get one free deals, but on straight buys totaled $60.08.
Meijer stores, Walgreens, Staples and the Dollar Store are also good places to find a deal on back to school supplies.
