(WHAS11) This week’s Consumer Watch is for all of you bargain hunters out there looking to stretch your dollars as far as they can go. Did you know there is a best month to buy nearly everything you need?
Good Morning Kentuckiana's Andy Treinen takes us through the discounts, month by month.
f you're in the market for a new car, or a plasma T.V., or maybe you'd like a fancy new lawnmower, when you buy can be just as important as where you buy; and this year, Yahoo Shopping has broken it down for us.
January is the month to buy Christmas lights, wrapping paper and ornaments with up to 75 percent savings.
In February, your focus should shift to saving on DVD and MP3 players; that's when you'll be grooving on booming discounts after new models are announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show.
In March, coats, skis and boots are moving out of stores to make way for spring stuff. You can buy inexpensively before the retailers release them to discount outlets.
With everybody about to go on spring break in April, digital cameras are a hot item and you can get a great deal, but if you buy one on-line make sure you look into free shipping because with the store shelves stocked retailers are offering it.
When Derby comes running into town, think about running shoes. All athletic apparel is about to get bumped for next season’s models in May.
And speaking of models, June is the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale offering big savings. You can also cash in as prices drop on swimsuits and summer wear.
July is the month to buy furniture. According to the American Home Furnishings Alliance, deals are abound as stores make room for new lines.
Then in August you can use some of the money saved on a new lawn mower.
When that September rain starts to fall your focus should turn to a new car. "A lot of the new models are coming out in September; the excitement builds and I think that's why September's one of the good months,” said Jeremy Jones, the new car sales manager at Ford.
October is a great month for buying grills. As dinner moves indoors, prices drop and they stay down through the New Year; which brings us to November, which is the best month to buy a new T.V.
As you can see, many of the deals can be found well before black Friday and Cyber Monday; and if you didn't get the ride of your life in September, December offers a second chance. "We have very few remaining 2011 Fusions Edges and Fiesta's and we're looking for them to go away; so yes, we're in the market to sell," said Jones.
With a little help from the economy in 2012, hopefully everyone will be in the market to buy; happy saving!
