(WHAS11) Nick Sanford, an 11-year-old Crosby Middle School student, is a pretty good shot. Nick loves his Louisville Cardinals and studies their moves, while at the same time trying to beat Big Brother Jim Foppiano to the basket. Nick is a cross country runner, and it seems he is one with boundless energy; like his personality. Doug Proffitt: “Are you tired yet?” Nick: “No, not really!”
This Big Brother, Little Brother match hit it off from the beginning, although Nick waited awhile on what was an ever-growing waiting list; it was two years until the two were matched in 2009. So we asked Nick how he has grown in that time; “I feel like I’m more respectful,” he said.
The movie, Secretariat, which alters the look of Churchill Downs back to the 1970’s and was filmed in Louisville and Lexington, was a history lesson for 11-year-old Nick. “It just shows that Louisville’s a famous city. I think it was good just to watch the horse run. It was cool.” For nick, right now though, his race is focused on life’s lessons and Jim said he’s a thoroughbred.
