LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- WHAS11 is continuing the quest to find some fun ways to get in shape. In this edition of summer fitness we are highlighting American Turners in Louisville.
Turners is the only gymnastic center that offers a fully equipped aerial program. If your dreams were ever to be in Cirque Du Soeil or just try something different to get in shape, their Aerial classes and workshops are for you!
Classes are available for Lyra, Spanish Web, Swinging Ladders, Static Trapeze, Silks and more.
Lyra, also known as aerial hoop is a circular steel apparatus suspended from the ceiling. The aerial artist performs acrobatics using it. It can be used static, spinning or swinging.
The Spanish Web, or Aerial Rope refers to both the apparatus and the performance. The apparatus itself is a long braided rope covered by a soft cotton sleeve. It's suspended from overhead rigging. Towards the top of the apparatus, a small loop is attached to the main rope through which a performer will secure an ankle or wrist and be able to hang freely.
Swinging ladders resemble a double metal ladder that is hung from silks, also known as Aerial Fabrics, Tissues, or Aerial Ribbons, is a type of performance in which one or more artists perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a special fabric. Performers climb the suspended fabric and use it to wrap, suspend, fall, swing and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions.
Aerial Silks require strength, flexibility and coordination, however it’s becoming widely popular as a form of exercise to gain these strength and flexibility.
Classes are available for all levels.
