LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A new veterans hospital could become a major pain for drivers. The plan is to put the VA hospital near Brownsboro Road and the Watterson Expressway. It's an area residents said is already plagued with traffic problems.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs just released an environmental study on the Midlands property. The traffic problems are addressed in the study, as are solutions that could make the plan possible.

Some options include adding a dedicated left turn lane from Brownsboro Road to Old Brownsboro Road, re-configuring Old Brownsboro Road, or re-configuring the Watterson-US 42 interchange and adding traffic lights.

Residents and business owner have mixed emotions about the hospital.

But, VA facility planner Bob Morey said the site is the best option available and they'll work to alleviate traffic problems.

The VA could make a final decision and purchase the Midlands property within the month. They won't decide how they'll mitigate the traffic problem until they've purchased the property.
