LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Dixie Bell Lounge in Valley Station is getting a makeover. It’s going from adult entertainment, to a healthy hometown restaurant and nightclub.

“We put in some more lighting and rehabbed the dance floor,” said owner John Owens. He recently took over the Dixie Bell. He says the ordinance on adult entertainment killed business, so he decided to take the place in a new direction. Now named Bootsies after Owen's tomcat, the restaurant features a full menu along with the calorie counts.

“We just want people to get some good ole southern cooking,” said Owens.

There are still remains from the Dixie Bell. There’s a light up floor, a champagne girls carpet and two poles. Owens says it’s too expensive to replace the carpets, and they plan on using the poles to hang lights on for when they have bands.

Owens was able to get a federal grant because of the mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement, which encourages restaurants to put their calorie counts on menus. He’s also a member of Kentucky Proud and will feature locally grown foods.

Bootsies will have a big grand opening on July 4th.
