(WHAS11)  Many small business owners are banking on Louisville’s downtown, thanks to the new basketball arena.

Five new restaurants and bars recently announced plans to open within a three-block radius of the arena.

They’re expected to bring over 100 jobs to the area in the coming months.

Business leaders say they’re counting on the influx of up to 23,000 people for U of L games and other events.

Patti Clare, Downtown Development Corporation said, “We’re looking forward to people being on the street, coming before events and staying after events.”

The Louisville downtown arena will open in November, 2010.
