LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The recent frigid temperatures across have been cause for heightened bills, but energy officials are saying consumption levels are not breaking any records.

Combined energy consumption levels of Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities customers crept into the top ten for all time.

The electrical peak was higher on January 6 than recent days and the all time high for electrical use occurred in August of 2010, during brutally hot summer temperatures.

Utility company officials said the best way to conserve energy was to invest in a programmable thermostat and to not heat your home when you’re not home.
