(WHAS11)  It was a remarkable sight on Friday; more than 70 trucks lining U.S. Highway 42 as part of a tribute to a man who touched lives all over Kentuckiana.  There was a flag-draped casket for a Purple Heart veteran, carried on the back of a tow truck.

Paul Burrows, 87, owned Burrows Garage and Wrecker Service, a well known business in Sligo, Ky. in Henry County.  The lives he touched was clear to see from the huge crowd and procession; with dozens of wreckers, cement mixers, and fire trucks among the vehicles.

Burrows was the third generation to own the family business, started in 1917 at a blacksmith shop, focusing on shoeing mules and later on working with cars.  Paul Burrows hand built the body of the truck, where his casket rested on Friday.

He served in Germany in World War II, and was a lifelong member of Sligo Baptist Church.  During the procession on Friday, Oldham County dispatchers announced that Burrow’s wrecker number was now out of service.

Paul’s son Scott will now be the fourth generation to own and run Burrows Garage and Wrecker Service.
