(WHAS11) -- In this week's Project Green, Jefferson Animal Hospital opened their brand new location in Fern Creek Monday with an emphasis on a greener environment.
This new facility on Bardstown Road is equipped with LED lights, which require less energy. Natural light is also being utilized. There are windows in every exam room, and there's a skylight in the reception area.
The facility also has a digital X-ray machine which reduces the need for dark rooms and toxic chemicals that are used to develop traditional X-ray film.
The employees are also encouraged to recycle as much as they can.
“This used to bug the heck out of me because this plastic, we would throw this away routinely. our garbage would be full of these things and once we realized several years ago that we could recycle these, every one of these, this whole mechanism is plastic,” Dr. Patricia Kennedy, director of Jefferson Animal Hospital, said. “Once it’s used and you put your needles in a container, this is all recyclable.
There are also recycling bins in the public areas so clients can recycle the trash they bring into the facility.
