Elizabethtown, Ky. (WHAS11) – After its closure, the Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia is holding an auction to sell 650 of their collectables.
Larry Schmidt, the president of the museum, felt it was time to part with the collectables that his father spent years acquiring. In all, the museum is home to about 80,000 items valued at $10 million.
The plan is to auction off all the items over time, said Schmidt. The money raised will be used to set up a foundation by the Schmidt family to benefit charitable organizations. Many of the items up for auction are worth between $20,000 and $30,000.
The Schmidt family started one of the nation’s first Coca-Cola bottling operations in 1902. More information about the auction is available at
