LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The choir at Pleasure Ridge Park High School is rehearsing for its moment in the spotlight. They will share the stage this weekend with rock band Foreigner at Belterra Casino.
Choir members were not even born when Foreigner was singing hit songs. So how are they preparing to take on '80s rock ballads.
Foreigner is known for their power rock ballads and big hair. They will sing chorus on the song " I Want to Know What Love Is." Aly Aguilar admits she had no clue who the band was. Many parents were more excited than the students.
"I didn't really know who they were then I looked up their music and they are actually very good," Aguilar said.
Choir director Phillip Jennings says they entered a contest. Last Friday, they got the word they were chosen.
"We rehearsed Monday and Tuesday last week after school for 10 minutes and Wednesday during class we threw together a video," Jennings said.
"Once we were selected , it's been an exciting week. We have had phone calls from people all over the community. It's brought great recognition to the school, to the choral program as a whole not just the students selected," Jennings said.
While it's an honor to be chosen and sing in front of thousands of people, student Troy Johnson says it certainly makes his family proud to sing on such a big stage.
"They are really excited I am getting out there more and getting on stage and performing." Johnson said.
