LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - The oldest living heart transplant recipient in Kentucky celebrated the 25th anniversary of his second heart on Saturday.

Ben Meiber's family threw him a surprise anniversary party at Persimmon Ridge Country Club in Louisville.

He got his heart transplant on November 1, 1986. He had waited on the transplant list for nine months.

"Well actually I was down at my camp, at Barren River about 100 miles from here and I got a call from the doctor saying that they had a heart for me. They flew me back [to Louisville] by helicopter and I got my transplant that night," remembers Meiber.

His wife was originally told that he would only live two to five years with his new heart, but he is still going strong 25 years later. He is now 79-years-old.
