(WHAS11) – The Ohio River Bridges Authority continues to make it clear that tolls will be part of the Ohio River Bridges Project. But the Authority has yet to announce a financing plan.
Indiana is responsible for the East End Bridge and Kentucky builds the new Downtown Bridge and reworks Spaghetti Junction.
It remains to be seen if Indiana and Kentucky lawmakers will approve the necessary funding.
“I’m very optimistic. I believe they recognize the importance of this project to the commonwealth of Kentucky and to the state of Indiana,” says Kerry Stemler, a member of the Authority.
Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock says he does not agree with State Senator Dan Seum that four bridges would need tolls. Hancock says the project can be paid for with tolls on just two bridges.
