(WHAS11)- Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear met with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray Lahood to discuss the new Milton-Madison Bridge.
They broke ground on the new project.
Located at US-421, it crosses the Ohio River between Madison, Indiana and Milton, Kentucky.
The existing bridge will be out of commission for 10 days of the project.
Both states will split the $103 million price tag with a Federal grant covering the rest of the $20 million.
Inspectors found cracks along the bridge deck and concrete curbs last year.
Workers will slide a new bridge into place and it could be done by September 2012.
