(WHAS11) -- New Albany has their own version of Honey Boo Boo. She's an English Bulldog at the New Albany, Floyd County Animal Shelter.

Honey Boo Boo has a serious medical condition, and without help could die.

"She has what's called an elongated soft palate," said Theresa Stilger with the shelter. "The roof of her mouth extends too far and it falls shut, then she can't breathe."

It's a common condition for bull dogs, but Stilger says Boo Boo's condition is particularly severe. Stilger says the pooch needs surgery, but it's costly. They got creative, and made a video playing off the dog's now-famous name.

"I said wow, we should really just try to play on this and raise awareness, and maybe we can get some help for her this way," said Stilger.

The goal is to raise about $700, but if the shelter can raise more, it will all go to other animals that need medical help.
