LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Several metro council members and their staff decided to "Give a Day" and help build a Habitat for Humanity home.

Volunteers pitched in to help build a home in the 1600 block of Columbia Street in the Portland neighborhood.

Council members say giving back is important, especially in this part of town.

The project was part of Mayor Fischer's "Give a Day" week of service.
