INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WHAS11) – A tribute has been unveiled honoring seven people who were killed when a stage collapsed in 2011 at the Indiana State Fair. A plaque bearing the names of the victims went on permanent display Thursday at the fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
Seven people died and dozens more were injured when scaffolding above the stage fell on a crowd during an August storm. The crowd was waiting for a performance by the country duo Sugarland to begin.
The unfortunate situation prompted the Indiana State Fair Commission to implement a new emergency management plan. It makes it clear who has the authority to postpone or cancel an event which caused confusion during last year’s storm.
